Oggcamp... "Next"

tl;dr OggCamp is currently on hold, and the previous team is not in a position to actively organise the next event. We need sponsors, a team lead, and a venue to move forward.

We had an excellent time in Manchester at OggCamp 2026 back in April, and we hope that those of you who came along and made the event what it was, also have great memories of the weekend.

OggCamp has always been a celebration of the open source community, bringing together enthusiasts, developers, and contributors from all walks of life. We think the unconference format makes it a welcoming space for everyone. It has also always been volunteer-driven. At the end of this year’s event, we asked for anyone interested in keeping things going to come forward and help us shape the future of OggCamp.

In the past couple of weeks, folks have started to ask about a future event via our Matrix room and in private channels, so it’s time for an update.

At the moment, OggCamp is… unreasonably inappropriate drumroll 🥁 in stasis! 🧊

On hold, but not gone.

The existing organising team has discussed options, and here’s where things stand.

  • None of us (Andy, Gary, Joe, May) are currently in a great position to take the lead on a future event. It is not impossible that we would remain involved, but we need a committed team to drive things forward.
  • Public Software CIC remains the key supporter of OggCamp, providing vital fiscal hosting and continuity 🙏🏻 but is not in a position to run the event on its own.
  • The primary needs are for a couple of headline sponsors, and a venue.
    • There’s a limited cash balance remaining in the kitty, but we’d need more than we have in order to run a successful event.
    • A location in London was tentatively explored for a 2027 event, but nothing was finalised. OggCamp has visited different parts of the country over the years, and there’s no reason it couldn’t move around elsewhere.
  • “many people want an OggCamp; few people seem to want to sponsor or run OggCamp.”

A couple of individuals have expressed interest in helping out, but we still need a committed team to take the lead, secure sponsorship, and organise the event.

We think it’s crucial that the UK has an event that is a home for Free Culture, Free and Open Source Software, and like-minded enthusiastic folk. The community has always been the heart of the OggCamp, and with your support, we can ensure that it continues to be a place for everyone that shares these values.
